 About The British Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands (BVI'S) comprise around sixty tropical Caribbean islands, ranging in size from the largest, Tortola 20 km long and 5 km wide, to tiny uninhabited rocks. The BVI'S are located a few miles east of the US Virgin Islands. The Atlantic is to the north of the islands, and the Caribbean Sea is to the south. Most of the islands are volcanic with a hilly, rugged terrain. The population of the BVI'S is about 27,800. The currency of the British Virgin Islands is US Dollar.

Because of its location and climate the British Virgin Islands has always been the haven for sailing enthusiasts. Calm waters and steady breezes provide the perfect sailing conditions. Many sailing events are held here, the most popular is a week-long series of races called the Spring Regatta. The Spring Regatta is part race, part party, part festival. There are races, games, and music during the day, and some partying at night. The Spring Regatta is normally held during the first week of April.

The islands are a popular destination for US citizens. With an average of 825,000 tourists visiting each year. The best way by far to see each island is to charter a yacht and take your own time to explore the numerous different bays, beaches and reefs.
